The Complex Carbohydrate Research Center at UGA

Although glycobiology is a relatively young scientific discipline, it has remarkably expanded over the past 4 decades. Since its founding in 1985, the Complex Carbohydrate Research Center (CCRC) has been at the forefront of this growth, driving pioneering discoveries that have transformed our understanding of glycans. This Glycotree traces the evolution of the CCRC by highlighting the scientists who joined the center across different eras, illustrating how each generation built upon the discoveries and mentorship of those before them. Like the branches of a tree, their collective contributions have grown glycobiology into a thriving interdisciplinary field spanning plants, animals, microbes, biotechnology, and human health.
