BioF:GREAT User Facility

The BioF:GREAT User Facility gives researchers everywhere access to glycoscience capabilities that are difficult to build in an individual laboratory: carbohydrate and glycoconjugate analysis, recombinant glycoenzymes and nucleotide-sugar donors, expression constructs, and the expertise to interpret what comes back. Academic, government and industrial users are all welcome.

What the facility offers

Glycoanalytics

Glycomics, glycoproteomics, monosaccharide composition, linkage analysis, glycolipids, sialic acids and glycosylation site mapping by HPAEC, GC-MS, MALDI-TOF/TOF, Orbitrap MS and NMR.

Glycoenzymes

Recombinant GFP-tagged glycosyltransferases in 100 µg units, plus nucleotide-sugar donors and analogs for chemoenzymatic synthesis.

Expression constructs

Gateway® pDONR clones, mammalian and bacterial expression constructs and baculovirus vectors, with recorded expression levels.

Computational tools

AI and machine-learning methods for glycoenzyme classification and function prediction, and tools for mining and visualising glycoscience data.

Training

Hands-on courses in glycobiology techniques for students, postdoctoral researchers and visiting scientists, taught at the bench.

Collaborative projects

User proposals for larger projects, reviewed internally and externally, with funding allocated case by case.

Getting started

Routine analysis and catalogue orders go through the service request form. Larger projects follow the user proposal route. The user flow chart sets out both paths side by side, and the FAQ answers the questions users ask most often.
