International visitors
Before visiting the CCRC and BioF:GREAT for your project, there are several forms and approvals to complete. The steps below apply to international visitors.
Steps
- Proposal accepted. A visit follows from an approved user proposal or an agreed collaboration.
- Background check. The University of Georgia requires a background check for visiting researchers.
- University visitor registration. Registration as a visiting scholar with the UGA Office of Research.
- Safety and access training. Laboratory safety training and building access are arranged before bench work begins.
Additional requirements
- Visa and immigration. International visitors are processed through the UGA international scholar services; start this early, as visa processing is usually the longest step in the timeline.
- Export control review. Where the project or instrumentation requires it.
- Health insurance. Confirm coverage for the duration of your visit.
- Accommodation. See the Welcome to Athens guide for housing and practical information.
Timeline. Start the process as early as possible —
approvals and, for international visitors, visa processing determine how soon a visit can
begin. Contact the BioF:GREAT team for help at any stage.
